Review - The Emperor of All Maladies: A Biography of Cancer by Siddartha Mukherjee

Phew. This was not an easy book. But, wow, was it fascinating. The Emperor of All Maladies is truly a biography of cancer and, what I would consider, the best source for anyone to learn in great detail about this disease.

It is written more for a layperson, but that does not mean it is an easy read, at least in my opinion. I had to reread certain sections a few times over to make sure I was understanding things correctly and I read this over the course of a week, which is a bit long for one book for me. But I truly learned so much about cancer and I am so intrigued and mystified by this disease now. I definitely would only recommend this if you are a scientific person and/or find the subject matter deeply interesting.

Overall, I found this to be an educational, enjoyable read that, although slow, held a plethora of important and fascinating information that I feel everyone should know and understand. Cancer lives in us and may very well affect most of us one day. That alone seems like a good enough reason to get to know more about it.
